BeamNG Mod Manager 🧡 0.8.5–0.8.7: Safer Mod Handling, More Precise Updates, Leaner Telemetry

Hey everyone 👋

Three updates have landed since the last post (0.8.5, 0.8.6, 0.8.7), and they share a theme: making BMM safer with your mod library, more honest about what it's doing, and more respectful of your privacy. No flashy new buttons this time — just the quiet, foundational work that makes an app you can trust with your whole collection.

TL;DR: library-safety fixes, more honest update reporting, steadier supporter benefits, and a big privacy trim to the optional telemetry.

Here's the breakdown.

🛡️ Protecting your mod library
Your library is the source of truth, so a few risky edge cases got closed:

  • Importing a mod through an unusual folder path — a mapped drive, shortcut, or junction pointing at your Mod Storage — could occasionally send the original file to the Recycle Bin. Your library originals are now protected. (0.8.5)

  • When you choose your Mod Storage folder, BMM now warns you if you've picked one that BeamNG or BeamMP manages — the kind of place where the game or launcher can move or delete your mods out from under you. (0.8.6)

  • Undoing an automatic duplicate cleanup now works even after you've moved your Mod Storage to a different drive. (0.8.6)

✅ Honest, reliable updates
The one-click updater got more trustworthy:

  • "Update All" now reports honestly — it counts only the mods that actually switched over, notes any it downloaded for you to enable later, and no longer claims everything's up to date if you cancel a run with updates still pending. (0.8.6)

  • The mod details page now shows the "Update available" panel — changelog and "Ignore for updates" included — for every mod the Updates page lists. (0.8.6)

  • Fixed a downloaded update occasionally being discarded and reported as "already up to date" when the file was missing from your library — it now installs correctly. (0.8.5)

💚 Steadier supporter benefits

  • Patreon membership checks are more reliable: a brief connection hiccup, or reconnecting with a different account, can no longer momentarily drop or cross up your supporter benefits. (0.8.5) Thank you again for backing this — the least it can do is keep your perks rock-solid.

🔒 Leaner, more private telemetry (0.8.7)
BMM's optional, anonymous usage stats went on a serious diet. It now records only a handful of big-picture signals — app launches, first-run completion, theme choice, outbound link clicks, and the two Patreon connect steps. It no longer sends anything when you import mods, activate or deactivate them, open features, or download updates. Fewer background requests, and less recorded about how you use the app.
As always: it's off unless you turn it on, and it never includes file names, folders, mod names, or anything about your Patreon account.

🔧 Under the hood
A broad round of reliability and safety hardening across imports, updates, and duplicate cleanup — plus an update to the underlying app framework for the latest security patch. (0.8.5, 0.8.6)
